SUMMARY:EAA Web Session 'State of the Art Tech in Actuarial Science'
DESCRIPTION:Technology drives actuarial calculations. The more and better we are able to calculate risks due to advances in technology\, the regulators and auditors expect to see this embedded into companies. This session will focus on State of the Art Technology in Actuarial Science. \n  \nTechnological improvements have the goal to make our day-to-day jobs easier and faster. Yet without understanding the underlying technology\, new dependencies are created. This web session will focus on newly formed best practices in the global insurance industry regarding emerging technologies. You will learn the details on: \n  \nAdvantages and disadvantages of running calculations in the cloud versus on-premise and hybrid setups\, and between various cloud providers\, Why different industries adopted Graphical Processing Units for their (actuarial) calculations\, How AI is limited in its success across the insurance industry for various business purposes; and where it is a proven success\, The impact of modern technology such as semi-SQL GPU databasing and cloud API connectivity for a financial company\, \n2023 tech that has not been embedded in the insurance industry. \nAnmeldeschluss: 2024-02-28

SUMMARY:EAA Web Session 'Credit Risk'
DESCRIPTION:Credit risk arises from the potential that a borrower or counterparty fails to meet its financial obligations. This can be related to a deterioration of the financial or liquidity position of the counterparty ultimately leading to default. The sources and propagation of credit risk can be both specific and systemic. Insurers and banks are significantly exposed to this risk via their fixed income investments\, loans and other recoverables requiring a proper understanding of the drivers and a tailored risk management. \nAnmeldeschluss: 2024-03-08

SUMMARY:EAA Web Session 'Commission’s Request to an Adapted Framework'
DESCRIPTION:Solvency II-Review was initiated in February 2019 with Commission’s request for technical advice to EIOPA. This advice constituted the basis for Commission’s proposal for an amendment of the SII-framework and the proposal to deal with recovery and resolution in a separate Directive. Council and later Parliament proposed numerous amendments to these proposals. These have been discussed by the trialogue parties since September 2023. The agreement achieved in December 2023 on the reform of the framework was an important milestone. \n  \nThis agreement paves the way for the adaptation of the Solvency II-framework and for the introduction of the new Insurance Recovery and Resolution Directive (IRRD). \n  \nSome relevant details of previously discussed issues are shifted to Delegated Regulation or Technical Standards and are not finalised. The Commission’s empowerments together with EIOPA’s previous technical advice allow already by now a first assessment of the outcome. \n  \nThis web session will deal with the following topics: \n  \n\na) Proposed amendments of the SII-Directive\nb) Expected amendments of Delegated Regulation and Technical Standards\nc) Fundamental components of the IRRD\n\n  \nThe goal of this web session is to provide an overview of the status of the SII-review and to assess the possible implications for actuaries and undertakings. Aspects of the IRRD and the interrelation between IRRD and Solvency II will be discussed. Commission is empowered to lay down technical details in Delegated Regulation or Technical Standards to complete the prudential framework. Actuarial topics which might be tackled in this process will be discussed as well. \nAnmeldeschluss: 2024-03-19
