SUMMARY:EAA Web Session "Revisiting Life Annuities"
DESCRIPTION:In an increasingly data-driven world both the data being available to actuaries in their daily work as well as the toolbox of algorithms grow significantly. This is because new sources of data are open for actuarial work\, like geo-risk data on granular levels\, data from sensors and all kinds of IoT devices\, health trackers\, telematics data etc. On the algorithmic side\, methods from the area of analytics\, predictive modelling and machine learning as well applications in the area of artificial intelligence (ML in the following). These methods also extend the field of activity of actuaries\, e.g. into the field of customer behaviour analytics. \nWithin this brave new world actuaries must maintain the highest professional standards of data and algorithmic quality. This means that there has to be a systematic management of input data as well as of algorithmic quality throughout actuarial procedures. \nRegistration deadline: 18 February 2021

SUMMARY:EAA Web Session "Automating Reports with R Markdown"
DESCRIPTION:Companies in general\, and insurance companies in particular\, spend a lot of resources re-writing the same reports over and over again. This costly and error prone process can be partially or fully automated with R Markdown. \nR Markdown enables you to:\n– Import data from several sources\n– Wrangle it to suit your needs\n– Run models and design state-of-the-art visuals\, and\n– Write reports in several formats\nall within a single application/script! \nMoreover\, the whole process is reproducible which means that it can be automatically re-generated whenever the underlying data or code changes. This web session will be presented in two parts. In the first part\, we show:\n– The structure of an R Markdown document\n– A practical example of an automated report for a fictional casualty insurance company\n– A brief discussion on implementing R Markdown in a corporate environment \nIn the second part\, we show how to write a simple html report with a step by step example. \nRegistration deadline: 4 February 2021

SUMMARY:EAA Web Session: Deep Learning in Insurance – Theory and Practice
DESCRIPTION:The main purpose of this online training is to get the participants acquainted with DL models. To this end\, a healthy mix between theory and practice will be provided\, however\, it is important to note that some time will be spend to go through the theoretical foundations of neural networks and hence DL\, as the inner workings of these models are a bit different from the ones of the classic statistical models. Note that quite a bit of time will also spend on some real insurance applications\, as to clearly illustrate how to use this amazing technology in practice. More specifically\, applications on technical pricing in non-life and text analysis will be provided. \nRegistration deadline: 29 January 2021

SUMMARY:EAA Web Session "Quantifying Climate Change Risks within Solvency II – A Practical Approach"
DESCRIPTION:In this web session a practical approach to measure climate change related risk within asset portfolios is presented. It is both\, applicable for ORSA assessments\, and suited for integration into the internal model market risk modules. The concept is developed reflecting recent regulatory opinions on environmental impacts and based on cutting-edge research standards which are pragmatically integrated into risk measurements under Solvency II.\nAfter discussing general principles and paradigms regarding the valuation of climate financial risks\, a scenario-based quantification scheme for the asset portfolio impact of climate risk is developed. Additionally\, a realistic case study is presented\, illustrating the approach and estimating the effects and impacts on the market risk capital calculations. \nRegistration Deadline: 19 Nov 2020

SUMMARY:EAA Web Session: Reform of Public Pension Schemes: Actuarial Challenges
DESCRIPTION:The objective of this web session is to present the concept of Automatic Adjustment mechanisms for social security pension\, based on real experiences in different countries. After a short reminder about public pension schemes\, we develop some philosophies of automatic adaptation\, including structural reforms such as NDC (notional account) or point systems. More theoretical models based on optimization programs will also be introduced.

SUMMARY:EAA Web Session "Cyber Insurance"
DESCRIPTION:Over the past years\, technological advances have greatly increased our dependency on digital technology. As a result\, consumers and businesses alike have become vulnerable to any form of distortion of their digital infrastructure. Due to the intangible nature and quickly changing character\, risk managers face a formidable challenge to effectively manage this ‘cyber risk’. One of the possible mitigation measures is to buy cyber risk insurance\, which may cover a plethora of expenses related to incidents in the digital realm. \nInsurers\, and the risk managers and actuaries working for them\, play a dual role in the cyber insurance industry\, offering both cyber insurance solutions as well as being exposed to cyber risk in their own organisation. In this web session\, we will explore both roles of the actuary/risk manager. We will provide an introduction to cyber insurance\, including its insurability and a discussion on the aftermath of a cyber incident\, while placing it in the broader context of cyber risk management. \nRegistration deadline: 7 Dec 2020

SUMMARY:EAA Web Session "Non-Life Pricing & Profitability Analysis Using Machine Learning Techniques with R Applications"
DESCRIPTION:The seminar will alternate between methodological concepts\, practical examples and case studies in order to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the techniques presented. \nThe participants will be requested to look at 4 e-learning modules (of around 30 minutes each) presenting the basics of machine learning before the web session. The access to these e-learning modules will be granted up to the end of the seminar.\nThese 4 e-learning modules are\n– Introduction to Machine learning\n– Supervised learning (parts 1 and 2)\n– Unsupervised learning \nThe case studies will be performed by the participants with the R software. An individual support can be available during the case study sessions through individual Teams meeting with the speakers.

SUMMARY:EAA Web Session: "The Retirement Phase: Product Development & Act. Modelling of Longevity Risk"
DESCRIPTION:The aim of the web sessions is to provide an overview over products for the retirement phase as well as a few thoughts on particular risks and the actuarial modelling behind them. Furthermore\, special attention will be given to the actuarial modelling of longevity risk by an introduction of stochastic mortality models and its applications within product development. \nIn the first part of the web session series\, we will introduce traditional and modern life insurance products for the retirement phase. This part will mainly contain a product overview where we illustrate the motivation\, concepts\, ideas and examples for different retirement products\, also taking product designs with capital market participation and longevity indexed products into account. \nThe second part of the web session series will mainly deal with actuarial modelling of longevity risk. In particular\, we will show why stochastic mortality modelling can be necessary and helpful within the product development of retirement phase products. For doing so\, we will introduce two popular approaches (Lee-Carter and Cairns-Blake-Dowd) for the modelling of longevity risk and show an application within a case study. \nRegistration deadline: 19 Nov 2020
